Where Do Obama & McCain Stand On Immigration Reform? - Caribbeanworldnews
Republican Presidential hopeful John McCain, at one time applauded by immigrant groups nationally for his stance on immigration reform, has now turned 180 degrees and it’s Democratic Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama who now seems like the shining knight for immigrant reform supporters.
Long gone are the days of the much-touted McCain-Ted Kennedy bill that would have set the undocumented on a path to legalization. Now McCain touts his strict border security policies and insists he has `always believed that our border must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to ensure that it is secure.`
Unlike McCain, Obama lays out his `immigration` policy plan while McCain has buried his under the subhead, `border security and immigration reform.`
Obama, the son of an African father, insists that while he wants to secure the borders and ports of entry, he `believes we must fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill.`
